Questions and fixes
KCD2 multiplayer
Does Kingdom Come: Deliverance II have multiplayer?
Not by itself: it is a singleplayer game. KCDS is a free mod that adds multiplayer, with dedicated servers and a server browser in the game. Read KCD2 multiplayer with KCDS.
Can I play KCD2 with my friends?
Yes. Join the same server, or host your own for your group. The server owner manual shows how to run one.
Can we play the game's story together?
No. You play together in a shared open world on a server, and what happens there is up to that server: its rules, its scripts and its own quests.
Getting started
Do I need to own the game?
Yes. Only an original, licensed copy can play: KCDS checks that your copy is original and ships no game files. It needs game version 1.5.5.
Is KCDS free?
Yes, the client, the server and the SDK are free.
Which systems does it run on?
The client runs on Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit). The dedicated server runs natively on Linux and in Docker.
What else do I need on my PC?
Steam must be running when you start KCDS, and Windows needs the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime (Windows 11 has it already). See the player guide.
Launcher and updates
Do I have to download every new version?
No. The launcher updates KCDS by itself every time it starts. You download the zip only once.
Is the download safe?
Updates are signed and the launcher checks every one before it installs it. Every file has a SHA-256 checksum, listed on the Download page, and the launcher writes nothing into the game folder.
Joining
How do I join a server?
Start KCDS and pick a server in the in-game server browser. To join one server straight away, set
serverAddress in kcds-launcher.json to its address, for example 203.0.113.7:7777. The
server list shows every listed server and its address.
The server says my version is too old
The server runs a newer KCDS than you. Restart the launcher: it installs the newest version before it starts the game.
Can my community's launcher start KCDS?
Yes. kcds-launcher.exe --connect play.example.com:7777 updates KCDS and then starts the game connected to that
server.
Crashes
How do I send a crash report?
You don't have to do anything: when the game or the launcher crashes, the report and the end of its logs go to our
own server, crash.kcdsynced.com. Reports are deleted after 60 days, their logs after 30. Telling us on Discord what
you were doing helps us find the cause faster. To switch crash reports off, set "enabled": false in the
"sentry" section of kcds-launcher.json; the privacy policy lists what a report contains.
Servers
Can I host my own server?
Yes. Every community runs its own dedicated server; only the server list is central. The server owner manual walks you through it.
Which port does the server use?
UDP 7777. Players outside your network need it open in the firewall and forwarded on your router.
How do I keep my server off the public list?
Start it with KCDS_MASTER_URL=off (KCDS_MASTER_URL=off ./start-server.sh, or -e KCDS_MASTER_URL=off in Docker). Players then join it by its address.
Development
Which languages can I script in?
JavaScript and TypeScript, on the server and on the client. See the developer guide and the docs.
Where is the API reference?
In the docs: every type of the SDK, generated from the SDK definition on every build.
