Privacy policy

The short version

  • No accounts on our side, no ads, no tracking cookies, no analytics.
  • We process the minimum we need: your IP address when the launcher downloads updates or the game loads the server list, your game platform account id for the ownership check, and a crash report when the game crashes (you can switch crash reports off).
  • Crash reports are deleted after 60 days, the logs sent with them after 30 days; web server logs after 14 days.
  • Each community server is run by its own operator, who decides what it collects. We do not see your gameplay or chat on those servers.

1. Who is responsible

The controller for the data described here is the KCDS team. Email: [email protected].

We have not appointed a data protection officer, as the law does not require one for a project of this size.

2. What we collect, why, and for how long

WhatDataWhy and legal basisHow long we keep it
Launcher updatesIP address, and the launcher's fixed program name. The launcher checks the file checksums on your PC; nothing else about your PC is sent.To deliver updates. Needed to provide KCDS (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).Web server logs: 14 days.
Game ownership checkYour game platform (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store or Xbox), your account id there and a one-time ownership ticket from that platform. The server you join checks the ticket with the platform; your own PC's claim is never trusted.To make sure only original copies play. Needed to provide KCDS (Art. 6(1)(b)).The ticket is used for the check only. Your platform account id is seen by the server you join (see section 3).
Discord account link (optional)Your Discord id, only if you link itSo servers can use it for whitelists and bans (Art. 6(1)(a), consent).Until you unlink it.
Server listIP address when the game loads the list; nothing about which server you joinTo show you the list (Art. 6(1)(b)) and protect it from abuse (Art. 6(1)(f), legitimate interest).Web server logs: 14 days.
Crash reportsSent automatically when the game or launcher crashes: a minidump (the program's call stacks and loaded modules, the CPU and Windows version; not your full memory), the last part of the launcher and game logs (they can contain file paths on your PC, including your Windows user name), the KCDS version, and your IP address. No screenshots, no session or usage tracking.To find and fix the crash (Art. 6(1)(f), legitimate interest).Crash reports 60 days, their logs 30 days.
Website visitsIP address, browser, page requested, timeTo run and secure kcdsynced.com (Art. 6(1)(f)).Web server logs: 14 days.
Listed serversServer name, address and port, player count, map, gamemode, tags, version, last seenTo show the server in the list (Art. 6(1)(b)). An operator's IP can be personal data.Only in memory: gone 45 seconds after the server stops reporting.
Emails to usYour address and what you writeTo answer you and handle reports and appeals (Art. 6(1)(f)).Until your question or case is closed and we no longer need it for follow-ups.

Where we rely on legitimate interest, our interest is keeping KCDS running, secure and free of crashes and abuse. You can object (see section 6).

Switching crash reports off: set "enabled": false in the "sentry" section of kcds-launcher.json next to the launcher. Reports that are already sent are not affected.

3. Community servers

When you join a community server, your game connects straight to that server. Its operator receives at least your IP address, in-game name and your verified game platform account id (and your Discord id, if you linked it), and can log chat, actions and anything their scripts collect.

The server operator is the controllerEach operator is responsible for their own server under GDPR. Ask them, not us, for access to or deletion of data they hold. Our Server hosting rules require them to publish their own privacy notice.

4. Who we share data with

  • Our hosting provider Contabo GmbH (Germany), whose server in France runs the update, server list, download, crash and web services for us under a data processing agreement.
  • Cloudflare, Inc., whose network carries the connections to kcdsynced.com and its services and protects them from attacks. It can process data outside the EU under the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
  • Our team's private Discord channel receives a short notice for each crash: the KCDS version and a link to the report, no personal data.
  • Authorities, only when the law requires it.
  • Nobody else. We do not sell data or share it for advertising.

5. Discord and social channels

Our Discord, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok are run on those platforms. When you use them, the platform's own privacy policy applies. Videos on kcdsynced.com are hosted by us and load only when you press play; nothing loads from YouTube or Instagram.

6. Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • show you the data we hold about you, and give you a copy;
  • correct it, or delete it;
  • limit how we use it, or stop using it where we rely on legitimate interest;
  • withdraw your consent to the Discord link at any time by unlinking it (this does not affect what we did before).

Email [email protected]. We reply as soon as we can, within the time the law sets. Because we have no accounts, we may ask for a detail (for example your IP address or the time of a crash) to find your data.

You can also complain to the Slovak data protection authority: Úrad na ochranu osobných údajov Slovenskej republiky, Hraničná 12, 820 07 Bratislava 27, dataprotection.gov.sk, or to the authority in your own EU country.

7. Cookies

kcdsynced.com uses no cookies. It may store your theme choice (dark or light) in your browser's local storage. That stays on your device and is not sent to us.

8. Children

KCDS is for people aged 16 and over. If you believe a child under 16 has sent us data, email us and we will delete it.

9. Security

Updates are signed and every file has a SHA-256 checksum; the launcher refuses anything that does not match. Our services use encrypted connections (HTTPS), and only the people who run KCDS can reach the logs.

10. Changes

We will update this page when what we collect changes, and keep the latest version here. Bigger changes are announced in the changelog.
