KCDS 0.3.1

Everything since 0.2.3.2 in one release: milestones 0.2.3 (activities), 0.2.4 (horses, carts and carry limits), 0.3.0 (audio and social) and 0.3.1 (assets and presentation), and the public documentation in English with the full SDK reference. Some parts are still being checked (listed at the end); those milestones stay open until then.

Servers need the 0.3.1 server as well. The launcher updates itself to 0.3.1 on the next start.

Fixes

  • The game starts full screen again: the launcher no longer opens every player's game in a 960x540 window with the game's developer mode. Only developer builds do that now.
  • Crafting cannot be cheated (#267): the server takes back a product that the materials the game spent could not have made (another recipe, more than the recipe yields, too high a quality).

Activities (0.2.3)

  • Smithing and alchemy seen by everyone (#193, #194): the forge, sparks, glowing workpiece, tools, the alchemy table and its sounds show in every game.
  • Crafting ruled by the server (#87–#90, #267): stations, recipes, occupancy, recipe learning, materials checked, reserved and refunded on cancel or disconnect.
  • Custom recipes and crafting stations (#221): any prop, its own animation, driven from the SDK.
  • Gathering, cooking, drying and smoking (#91, #92, #229) seen by everyone, with results that stay.
  • Dice (#93, #270): matches, tables, turns and settlement; the dice prompt hides on servers without a dice resource.
  • Server item config (#262): override the default items' weight, price and stats.
  • Combat (#46–#50, #60): damage and death events, injuries and revives, blocks and dodges, clinches, NPC combat (archers too).
  • Quests (#81, #82): definitions, the journal, tracking and map objectives.

Server resources and hosting (0.2.3)

  • HTTP, databases and npm packages in server resources (#273): fetch, HTTP routes, SQLite and MySQL.
  • A community's own launcher can start KCDS and connect straight to its server (#274).
  • Release builds in Docker (#275): the Linux server image and the Windows client and server, built on Linux.
  • KCDS watermark (#272) in the bottom left corner.

Horses and carts (0.2.4)

  • Horse saddlebags held by the server (#278), with an SDK: read, add, remove, events.
  • Horses from the SDK (#266), per breed in the server config; a horse's carry limit (#265).
  • Carry limits (#263, #264): a per-item carry limit per player, and equipped items' weight left out of the player's load (or a share of it).
  • Carts: loads and cart storage.

Audio and social (0.3.0)

  • Sounds (#98): options and lifecycle from the SDK.
  • Discord presence (#99), with resource overrides.
  • Nameplates (#100): text, health, colour and visibility.
  • Trade with another player in the game's own trade screen (#196).
  • An arrow stuck in a player can no longer be picked up (#208); natural herb spawns can be switched off (#214).

Assets and presentation (0.3.1)

  • Custom assets (#102, #103): stream and replace, catalogs, validation, download and reload.
  • Animations (#104, #105): catalogs with metadata and props; player and NPC animations, facial and talking animations, end events.
  • Following (#107): targets, routes, start and stop events.
  • Join queue and whitelist (#165): the native default queue; server scripts own the order.

Documentation

  • The public documentation is in English, on https://kcdsynced.com/docs, with the SDK reference built from the runtimes: every SDK type and member is described, and the standard Web APIs a resource has (fetch, Request, URL, streams and the rest) link to MDN.

Still to check live

  • Smithing quench and the smith's legs (#193), alchemy bubbling for a watcher (#194), nameplates at a distance and the loading screen, talking while drunk, the free camera line, wagons.
